  Anyone want to share emails that they wrote to the BBC about the program this morning?

  i know many of you have sent emails to emma britton, who hosted the show this morning with our own cantleave and angus.

  (btw, you guys did amazing!).

  i sent my email to her as well and wanted to see if anyone else wants to share their emails.

  Despite living in Scotland, I heard part of this morning's show on Radio Somerset using a weblink kindly posted to me. Fellow posters on an ex-JW website forum advised me about the time the programme was to be aired. I look forward to listening to the full show on iPlayer.
  
  I'd like to heartily thank you for having the courage to report on the story of how Jehovah's Witnesses treat former members by their inhuman shunning policy.
  
  When a person joins this group they are almost always unaware that they can never voluntarily leave without suffering from this practice. Despite what the Watchtower Society may say, this is in fact the situation that such an individual finds him/herself in. Your informative show highlighted this fact, for which I'm grateful.
  
  I exited the cult in 2003 when I disassociated myself. I awakened to the fact that I was really a lifelong humanist, with no belief in any god! Without exception, all of my former religious associates have shunned me since - sad, but true. My wife is still a cult member, but has increasing doubts about her involvement. I hope that she will soon leave this church, although she will face the same treatment as everyone else that dares to leave!

  Posted on Amelia Ashton's similar thread a short while ago. Managed to listen to the whole show on iPlayer. I think that the programme was very balanced and dignified.

  Pathetic that no one from WT HQ, local elders or Nathan's family (except his never-a-JW dad) were willing or able to comment - I think that fact will not go unnoticed by the listeners.

  I've just had an email from presenter Emma Britton thanking me for my email thanking her for presenting such an enlihghtening broadcast. She's a modest woman, and said that all thanks should go to Tammy, the lady that interviewed Nathan.

  i know of someone that has made no bones about being somewhat unhappily married.

  they got married because they "fooled around" and felt it was the "right thing to do".. i wonder how many people are unhappily married?

  We celebrated our 39th wedding anniversary last December.

  The only thing that robs me of some happines is that my wife is still stuck in the WT cult. I escaped in 2003, so it took me a long time to realize what I was really involved in. Maybe she'll change some day, too? That's my main goal in life!

  my story, would like some advice

  im looking for some advice.. so i grew up as a witness was baptized when i was seventeen, which by the way i was pushed into baptizm cuse my parents kept asking me when i was and threatned to not buy me a car if i didnt get baptized.

  since it was never in my heart i was never very dedicated and was disfellowshipped by nineteen i started the process of coming back but after bout four months i moved out.

  i started partying alot mainly with my other disfellowshipped friends and nonactive jw frien, we were drinking alot and smoking weed but soon i started feeling the need to go back so i started up at the meetings but i got bored and went back to my old ways, this has been what i have been doing for the last five years, partying getting drunk and drugs and then stopping and going back to the meetings for a couple months, the same process for last the last almost five years.

  Your life, so far, has been quite troublesome - and not just the WT element, either.

  I've never done drugs, so don't know how effective drug rehabilitation might be for you, assuming that you really want to quit the addictive habit. Like other posters have said, seeking professional help seems appropriate - can you get this free, or will it be expensive?

  Whatever you do, good luck to you. Remember, we all make many mistakes, so, work hard to learn from them. Quitting the JWs can only be good for your sanity and peace of mind! I wish you nothing but the best to find happiness and contentment for the rest of your life.

  for a long while i have been coming to this site on a daily basis and i think it is time to introduce myself.

  here we go: my parents learned the truth when i was 4 and i don't have childhood memories of how life was before they converted.

  i was a model jw child, although quite mischievous at school.

  Thanks for posting your story. It was a good read, and I enjoyed it.

  I was a third generation born-in, baptised at 15 or 16 (can't remember exactly), married my still-in wife in 1971. I was then still 19, she was 20. We celebrated our 39th anniversary in 2010. I was an MS, then elder, regular pioneer, etc. Never gave talks at any assemblies as I refused to shave my beard off, much to the continual annoyance of the CO and DO. I suppose I've always been a bit of a rebel at heart. Had a great laugh that I was only permitted to go out to give public talks at congregations that had a beard tolerance!

  DAd myself in 2003 - having researched the WTB&TS I realized that I was in a nasty cult. Probably a lot of this started due to my learning about critcal thinking ability while studying for an MBA (Marketing) degree in 1994/5. My feelings of guilt were huge for being such a complete fool to have been so stupid to have been conned by the WT, and corrupted our 4 sons with the same nonsense. Fortunately our 4 sons woke up even sooner than me, and are all well out of the cult, living good, productive lives. Only my wife clings on, however tenuously. It is still really difficult to realize that she is just 'trapped in the mind-control world of JWs'. I live in hope - maybe one day, she'll join me and discover freedom, and the real responsibility of being a decent human without the need for any god or religion.

  You must be far smarter than your average JW to have had the guts to quit the cult and leave your abusive husband. The 'advice' you were given by the 'elders' wasn't good - you outsmarted them by not going along with their nonsense.

  Oh, and well done in finding love again with your new non-JW husband.

  come 2014 even some dubs must start to ask wtf jesus has been doing for one hundred years, and there is a big potential for many to leave.. what more will the wt bull**it (writing) department come out with to keep the poor little drones feeding the hive, and maintaining the gb's rock-star life-style ?.

  the over-lapping generation tripe will be getting on for five years old by then, surely "noo lite" will shine that makes the big a even closer or somesuch ?.

  come on chaps, those poor saps in writing need your best ideas.

  I've asked my still-in wife this question several times recently. She simply won't answer. I guess she knows that something isn't right, but she's not acknowledging that the WTs 'game is up' as far as 1914 is concerned. I've tried a more humourous approach, asking if there are any 'big parties' likely to be arranged to 'celebrate' 100 years, but still no response.

  Apparently, mentioning the year 1914 and its significance is hardly ever mentioned now in WTB&TS literature or from the platform. It seems to have been almost totally forgotten - quite conveniently, I reckon.

  When I used to believe this stuff and try to convince the public going door-to-door, I often wondered what would happen in 2014.

  It would be great if many woke up, but I doubt many JWs will even pause and think of the significance!

  A warm, friendly welcome from bonnie Scotland. It is great to hear that you have seen through the con that this cult produces, and exited.

  Like wobble, I was a born-in (1952), third generation JW. DAd myself in 2003 when I became convinced that I no longer believed in any god or gods - just enforced that I was really just a lifelong humanist.

  All 4 sons are out of the cult, and our 3 grandchildren will never become involved. Son number 3 is now living in Ottawa with his fiance - he loves living in Canada, and feels that he's been made very welcome.

  Sadly, my wife's still attending meetings, although I don't think that she goes door-to-door any longer.

  I'm now an active Scottish Humanist - I've just paid to renew my subscription for another year. A recent research poll indicated that 2 out of every 5 Scots live their life, 'good without god'. I'm happy to be just one of them!

  it was a beater and i named him earl.

  Sorry sebastious, but I don't have any pictures of my first car - a mustard yellow, 1969 Fiat 500L. Fantastically cheap car - fun to drive and while tiny, Ok for 4 at a tight squeeze! It was seen as a pretty 'cool' car to drive at the time, and, equally, to be seen in.

  I'm currently waiting on taking delivery on a new FIAT 500 TwinAir - 85Ps from a technological miracle of a 2cylinder engine. In my book, the Italians are a really clever nation of inventors of fantstic new products that you just want to buy! I started a thread about this exciting new prospect just a few hours ago...
